ICE

Combatant Col in the Waddington Range was the site of a relatively recent project to extract ice cores from a mid-latitude glacier. Ice depths at Combatant approach 250 metres, with the ice at the lowest layers approximately 200 years old. Weather records coupled with the evidence from the extracted cores place Combatant Col as one of the wettest places on earth. Combatant Col is 53 kilometres from desert-dry Kleena Kleene, annual precipitation 318 mm. Read about the 2010 ice core project here
